Reckoneer / Prerequisite

Shopify store

Every Reckoneer run targets a specific Shopify store. The store is the destination — it is where the finished theme, products, and pages will land. There is no 'create store' step inside Reckoneer.

If the client is starting from scratch, they (or you) must first create the store at shopify.com, choose a plan, and have a live .myshopify.com address. If the client already has a store with products and a theme, that store is the target.

Reckoneer needs to know the store domain (e.g. client-name.myshopify.com) at intake. Nothing can proceed without it.

Terms
Shopify store

A hosted e-commerce environment managed by Shopify. Each store has a unique .myshopify.com address, a product catalog, a theme controlling its appearance, and an admin panel for management.

AnalogyThink of a Shopify store like a physical retail location that Shopify owns the building for. You rent the space, fill it with your products, and decorate it your way — but the building infrastructure (checkout, payments, hosting) is Shopify's.
OriginShop: from Old North French 'eschoppe' (booth, stall). Store: from Old French 'estorer' (to furnish, stock). Together: a furnished place of trade.
.myshopify.com domain

The permanent internal address Shopify assigns to every store at creation. Never changes even if a custom domain is attached later. Used by Reckoneer as the unique identifier for a store.

AnalogyLike a Social Security Number for a store. The public name can change (custom domain) but the internal identifier stays the same forever.
OriginDomain: from Latin 'dominium' (ownership, lordship). In web terms: a named address that identifies a location on the internet.
Shopify Admin

The backend management interface of a Shopify store, accessible at store.myshopify.com/admin. Where products, themes, pages, orders, and settings are managed.

AnalogyThe back office of a retail store — the stockroom, manager's desk, and cash register system all in one. Customers never see it; it's where the operator runs everything.
OriginAdmin: short for 'administrator', from Latin 'administrare' (to manage, to serve). The person or interface that manages the whole.
